SIKESTON - The Junior Chamber of Commerce last night voted down a proposal to change its name to the Jaycees, 24-2. The United States Junior Chamber of Commerce also have changed its name to the U.S. Jaycees.

SIKESTON - A long-range program to develop a 35-acre site adjacent to Interstate 55 into a business park has been announced by Don Lowe, president of OFM Co. Initial plans include the renovation of the existing 64,000 square foot building into a multi-use, multi-tenant facility. Currently, the building houses the Sikeston Trade Fair.

EAST PRAIRIE - The official acceptance of a Rural Business Enterprise Grant in the amount of $374,437 came Thursday night with the approval of the City Council and the signing of the resolution by Mayor Lonnie Thurmond.
CHARLESTON - Grant assistance is available for waste recycling projects and wood shredders, and the Mississippi County Commission Thursday voted to file applications seek funding. If successful with paper, the recycling could then be expanded to the future to include plastic, glass and aluminum.
SIKESTON - Individuals interested in getting involved in the Weed and Seed Program are encouraged to attend a meeting at the Citizens Home Mission Center, 229 Westgate. The public is invited to attend.
