SIKESTON - Miss Mary Emma Donnell will entertain with a party at her home on Tanner Street June 21 in honor of Rose Mary Putman, who will become the bride of William S. Vandivort of Cape Girardeau on June 28.

SIKESTON - James Hewitt, son of James C. Hewitt of Morehouse, has been elected Linn County administrator at Boys State. Sylvia Noles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Noles of Sikeston, has been elected councilman at Girls State.

20 years ago - June 16, 1985

SIKESTON - The musical comedy "Tumbleweeds" will close the Sikeston Little Theatre's 25th season on June 20-22 at 8 p.m. at the Chaney-Harris Cultural Center.

BENTON - Margaret Lambert of Sikeston will create three graphic murals at the Moore-DuPont Winery. One mural depicts a man's association with wine. Visitors to the winery are welcome to watch the artist at work. An additional 40-foot mural illustrating the process of wine making has also been commissioned by Moore-DuPont.

SIKESTON - Astro, the canine cop, and his handler Brian Evans, officially went on duty Wednesday evening. During the first full week in June, the two were on the streets but were still in training under the supervision of Michael Ervin. Astro has been trained in narcotic detection, handler protection, searches and trackings.

CHARLESTON - Larry Claghorn of Caledonia, Miss., will be the operator of the Dorena-Hickman Ferry, according to Don Burnett, chairman of the Ferry committee of the Port Authority. The decision on Claghorn was made after interviewing eight applicants.
