MORLEY - Christene Godwin, 72, died at 7:47 p.m. Jan. 29, 2006, in the emergency room of Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Oct. 3, 1933, in Hagarville, Ark., daughter of the late Joseph W. and Robbie Hutchins Mays, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morley and for 15 years the program director for the Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging in Sikeston and Cape Girardeau.

On July 17, 1953, in Miner, she married Glen Godwin, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Rita Godwin of Jackson, Marty and Sherry Godwin of Vanduser and Rick and Karen Godwin of DuQuoin, Ill.; three brothers, Bill Mays of Mount Morris, Mich., Don Mays of Fredericktown and Basil Mays of Englewood, Fla.; one sister, Lula Warren of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dick Mays and G.L. Mays.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Jim Matthews, pastor of the Cape County Cowboy Church in Fruitland, will officiate with the Rev. Rodney Davis, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Morley, assisting.

Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery.
