PUXICO - Gladys Eugene Pope, 94, formerly of St. Louis, died Dec. 15, 2005, at the Rainbow Inn Retirement Home in Poplar Bluff.

Born Nov. 18, 1911, near Oblong, Ill., daughter of the late Stoie Bruce and Ada Louella Beeson Maxey, she had lived in Puxico since 1965 and was a retired clerical stenographer at Riegel Textile Corporation. She had attended Seed Chapel Church in Oblong and Pleasant Valley Church in Puxico. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was active in the Puxico Senior Citizens Center.

On Aug. 26, 1933, she married Homer Loyd Pope who preceded her in death July 23, 1975.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Loyd Maxey; and three sisters, Edith Irene Musgrave, Hattie Marie McGee and Naomi Beatrice Allen.

She is survived by one brother, Charles A. Maxey of Valparaiso, Ind.

Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Monday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico with an Eastern Star service to follow at 10 a.m. and a funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Amos Dees and Wiley McGhee of Puxico officiating.

Burial will follow in the Puxico Cemetery.
