Lady Hawks finish the regular season with record of 16-6

JACKSON--The Kelly Lady Hawks wrapped up their regular season of softball Monday afternoon by defeating the Jackson Lady Indians by a score of 4-3 in seven innings.

Kelly finished up the season with a record of 16-6.

"It was a good win going into districts," Kelly head coach Rhonda Ratledge said. "They (Jackson) started hitting the ball at the end."

Kelly jumped out early in the first inning when leadoff batter Londyn Backfisch hit a triple to the fence, but on appeal of the play, she was ruled out for not touching second base.

The Lady Hawks didn't let the questionable call affect them, as they recorded four more hits in the inning, plating three runs to go up early in the game.

Brittany Brantley and Heather Beggs recorded back-to-back doubles, each plating a run, before the end of the first.

Jackson would push one run across in the first, but remained quiet until the bottom half of the seventh inning due to the well-pitched game of Kelly's Jessica Riley.

Kelly scored one more in the third when Katee Moore doubled to lead off the inning, followed by consecutive sacrifice bunts from Casey Kern and Brittany Brantley.

The Lady Hawks were lead at the plate by Moore, who was 2-for-2, with a single, a double, a walk and two runs scored. She also turned a double play in the fourth inning that ended a Jackson threat.

Adding singles were Backfisch, Sarah Ruff and Lana Whitworth. Brantley and Beggs each had a double. Brantley had two RBI while Beggs had one RBI.

Going the distance on the pitching rubber was Riley, who threw seven innings, allowing three runs, on six hits, two walks and had six strikeouts.

Jessica Tuschhoff took the loss for Jackson, which fell to 15-10 for the regular season. Tuschhoff allowed four runs, on seven hits, two walks and recorded five strikeouts in the game.

Brittany Feeny was 2-for-3, with two singles and an RBI, while Alisha Craft was also 2-for-3, with a single, a double, an RBI and a run scored for the home team.

The Lady Hawks begin district play on Friday afternoon. They are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. at St. Vincent-Perryville City Park. They will be playing the winner of the No. 4 seed Chaffee and No. 5 seed St. Pius game.
