SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. N.C. Watkins Sr. arrived this morning for a visit with the latter's mother, Mrs. C.L. Blanton Sr. and family. The Watkins will go to New York Friday, where Watkins will receive a week's training before leaving for Ecuador on a construction project. They plan to be in South America two to three years.

SIKESTON - A number of young ladies were recognized for their good citizenship by the King's Highway Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

SIKESTON - Jay Nixon, a Jefferson County state senator who is challenging John Danforth for U.S. senator, was in Sikeston Friday to meet area business people and Democratic officials.

SIKESTON - A man who had only seconds to live was pulled out of a burning pickup truck early this morning. Sikeston Public Safety Officer John Kozel is credited with saving the life of construction worker Anthony Fisher, 28, of Kokomo, Ind., who had crashed his pickup into the residence at 107 Stoddard St.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a 48-33 loss to the Delta Lady Bobcats on Thursday. Delta's pressure defense proved to be the difference.
