SHS J.V. falls to Blytheville

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston junior varsity football team dropped to 2-2 on the season with a 20-6 loss to Blytheville on Monday at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium.

Blytheville led 20-0 in the game before Sikeston finally broke the shutout in the fourth quarter when Charlie Bohannon found Stephen Jackson for a 60-

yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds left in the contest.

Sikeston will host Poplar Bluff's junior varsity next Monday at 6 p.m.

CHAFFEE -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softball team had an improved performance against Chaffee, but still lost on the road 6-3.

The Lady Bulldogs lost to Chaffee 15-0 earlier this season and appeared to be well on their way to another rout when the Lady Devils to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

But Sikeston settled down and regrouped to keep it interesting to the end.

"We played well but we had a really tough first inning," said Sikeston coach Tiffany King. "After we got through that first inning we started hitting better and we made a comeback. We still have a lot of work to do, but we're making progress."

Chaffee led 6-0, but Sikeston scored three runs in the top of the sixth. They couldn't get any closer.

Kaitlyn Turnbow led Sikeston with two hits. Mary Deason had a triple and two RBIs. Dez Martin and Emilie Martin each collected one hit. Kaycie Williams had an RBI.

Mara Krokstrom was the losing pitcher for Sikeston, throwing six innings and allowing three walks with four strikeouts.

Sarah Benton, Veronica Bennett and T. Martin each had one hit for Chaffee.

Sikeston will host East Carter today at 4 p.m.

FARMINGTON -- The Sikeston varsity soccer team fell to Farmington on the road on Monday, falling 2-1 to the Knights.

The Bulldogs (3-8-1) out-shot the Knights 26-13 but couldn't make them count.

Farmington took the lead on a penalty kick six minutes into the game. At the 17:00 mark, the Knights to a 2-0 lead on a corner kick.

Sikeston broke the shutout when Chris Carnell scored on an assist from Blake Taylor at the 26:00 mark.

But the Bulldogs couldn't get the tying goal the rest of the night.

"It kind of hurt us losing tonight since Farmington is in our district now," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "We out-shot them and out-played them in my opinion, but we couldn't put it in the net. We've been struggling with that."

Scott Droddy had 11 saves for the Bulldogs.

Sikeston's junior varsity fell to 2-5-1 with a 4-1 loss to Farmington. Robert Brooks tallied the Bulldogs' only goal, with an assist from Clint Boswell.

Sikeston will play at Jackson today at 5:30 p.m.

SIKESTON -- Host Charleston defeated Sikeston 7-2 in a dual tennis match on Monday.

Sikeston's Jenni DeWitt kept her unbeaten streak alive in singles competition with an 8-1 win over Katherine Luehmann of Charleston. DeWitt also teamed with Tess Marshall for an 8-2 doubles win over Charleston's Jade Schwieger and Lindsey Burke.

Charleston's junior varsity swept Sikeston, 3-0.
