Your view: You are appreciated

Far too often we fail to give credit where credit is due. As an employee of New Madrid County R-1 School District, I feel fortunate to have been given the opportunity to serve as principal at Matthews Elementary School. Through my job, I have had the privilege of working with members of the Matthews Elementary PTO. What an outstanding organization!

Just in recent months, the support of this group has been overwhelming. Thanks to their generosity we have installed over 900 feet of chain link fencing around our playground areas; landscaped the area around the main entrance of our building; and purchased a new public address system for the gymnasium. These are only a few of the investments that PTO has made in our school and for our students over the years. They just completed a successful Red Cross Blood Drive here on campus. Members also volunteer to help with programs at school. I could go on, but space permits.

On behalf of the staff and student body of Matthews Elementary, I want to offer our thanks to those fine parents, both past and present, who have given of themselves and their time to support us. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Don Phillips, principal
