Letter to the Editor

Your view: A nice memory

Friday, June 29, 2007

I am writing this letter, in the hope you will print it in your paper. This past weekend, we were traveling back to Kentucky after visiting my parents in Springfield, MO.

Late Saturday afternoon, our van decided it had enough, and quit on us. We were stranded, with 5 kids, a utility trailer, and a puppy. Shortly after breaking down, 3 different people stopped to check on us. One man even came back a second time to check on us.

Fortunately, we had AAA. AAA sent Sikeston Auto Service. Mike Partin came to our rescue. His lovely wife gave us a ride in her own personal vehicle to a hotel. It was Saturday night, no car parts stores were open. And, of course...the next day was Sunday. We knew we were stuck.

Mike, somehow performed a miracle, and managed to get us on the road on Sunday. He knew we were tired, had a gaggle of kids, and wanted to get home.

We were blown away by the kind people we met this past weekend in Sikeston. We broke down in Indiana on a previous trip (it's seems it's becoming a travel tradition for us!) and NOBODY stopped.

I would also like to say a special word of thanks to Drury Inn in Sikeston/Miner. They were so kind to us, understanding, and accomodating. Robbie, the lady at the front desk was wonderful.

Thank you Sikeston for making what should have been a bad experience, a nice memory. Your town is loaded with good samaritans. You should be proud.
