SIKESTON - W.L. "Bill" Scott of Kendall Street celebrated his 45th anniversary recently as an implement dealer and maintenance man in the Sikeston district.

SIKESTON - The high school ensembles will be featured in the concert of the high school choir at the junior high auditorium at 3 p.m. Sunday. Gordon Beaver directs the choir, who is accompanied by Judy Matthews.

SIKESTON - Students graduating from multi-occupation classes in March were recognized at a school assembly program Friday afternoon at the Airport school. Twelve men and women received their graduating certificates in the program. All have completed 12 to 20 weeks basic education and 16 weeks specialized training.

BERTRAND - Ellen Frentrop was named Bertrand's Woman of the Year Tuesday evening by the Women's Auxiliary for the Volunteer Fire Department. The surprise announcement was made during the auxiliary's ham and bean dinner at the United Methodist Church.

NEW MADRID - Emphasizing there is no need for alarm, New Madrid County health officials explained the health risks involved from the recent influx of birds. Also discussed were the steps to be taken to avoid future problems. Jimmy Bradley, sanitarian for the New Madrid County Health Department, met with the New Madrid City Council Monday following citizen inquiries about the dangers of histoplasmosis, an airborne disease caused by a fungus found in soil containing bird droppings. According to Bradley, most permanent adult residents are not in danger from histoplasmosis, since they were probably exposed to it as children and have developed an immunity.
