SIKESTON - Tommy McClure, son of Dr. and Mrs. T.C. McClure, who is stationed in Korea, has been promoted to staff sergeant. McClure has been there since last September.

SIKESTON - Ground breaking ceremonies for the new Missouri Delta Community Hospital wing will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. A program for the ceremony has not been developed yet.


SIKESTON - W. Raymert Miller, city manager, has been appointed to the resolution committee of the Missouri Municipal League by Jefferson City Mayor John Christy, president.

SIKESTON - An agreement between the city of Sikeston and the Sikeston Bootheel Humane Society is one of several items facing the Sikeston City Council which will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the City Municipal Building. Also, under old business, the council is expected to award a bid for Southwest Street construction.


WASHINGTON - Republican Rep. Bill Emerson has a fund-raising edge over Democrat Wayne Cryts in the race for Emerson's 8th District House seat, according to campaign finance statements on file here.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Country Club recently held a tournament for junior golfers. Winners were: Boys 17-18 years old - Brian Mattieson (first place), Ryan Jacques (second place), John Sutton (third place). Boys 15-16 years old -Danny Groesbeck (first place), Jason Spitzmiller (second place), Brent Pearson (third place). Boys 13-14 years old - Brandon Couch (first place), Ryan Griggs (second place), Adam Fritz (third place). Girls 13-14 years old - Lauren Wibb (first place).


SIKESTON - Presenting a unified front Thursday, officials and business owners from Sikeston and Miner called on local voters to approve a hotel/motel tax.
