Your view: Back to School Fair

Wednesday, August 30, 2006

The Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation (DAEOC) held it's annual Back to School Fair. The fair was held at the Sikeston Field House in Sikeston Aug. 3.

Grades kindergarten through 12th grade received school supplies. Parents and students also received valuable information on seatbelt safety, finger printing, an eye exam, a hearing screening, Medicare/Medicaid services, library information, prevention through discipline, the harmful effects of tobacco products, nutrition and exercise, bus/car safety, head lice prevention/treatment and DAEOC's Father's-for-Life program.

DAEOC's Scott County team members would like to thank everyone that contributed to the purchase of the school supplies: Wal-Mart, Thornton Law Firm, Plaza Tires of Sikeston, Alan Wire Co., First Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Scott County Officials, Sonny Solid Waste Service, Stan's Carpet of Sikeston, Ponder Funeral Home, Sikeston Elks 2319 Bingo Fund, Nunnelee Funeral Chapel and The Piedmont Shelter Workshop.

Our fair would not be complete without the help of our partners. Thanks to the following participating service providers who set up booths: Marion Eye Center, Sikeston R-6 Parents-As-Teachers, Scott County Sheriff's Department, Scott County's health Department, Miracle Ear, Sikeston Public Library, Scott County WIC, MBRC Inc., University of Mo. Extension Sikeston, DAEOC's Prevention through Discipline, and of course, the Sikeston High School for the space at the Field House.

Thanks again to a great community for your time, generosity and support.
