SIKESTON - The Sikeston High School cagers bounced back into action last night with a double-header sweep of Matthews played in Sikeston.

MOREHOUSE - The one-story frame house of William "Bill" Tarrants and his son, Mike, was destroyed in a blaze discovered shortly before 10 p.m. The Tarrants' contents was burned. Tarrants was told of the fire after he reported for work on the night shift. His son had been visiting with friends elsewhere.

SIKESTON - Larry Allen, employment counselor, spoke to the Professional Business Women's Club Wednesday during its regular monthly meeting.

CHARLESTON - Approximately $250 was reportedly taken from the cash register at the Amoco Service Station on South Main Street, according to a report given to the Department of Public Safety. Reportedly, a man had come into the station earlier and asked for an oil filter. The attendant went to the bay of the station for a filter, returning to find the man gone. Some 20 minutes later, another customer came to the service station and when the attendant rang up the sale, the cash register has been emptied of about $250.

METROPOLIS, Ill. - The 1997 Massac County High School 14th Annual Pepsi Superman Classic came to a close on Saturday night. When it was all said and done, the Charleston Bluejays walked out of the Massac County Gymnasium holding the championship trophy, gaining back a little respect that left with the departure of Jeremy Biles. Charleston defeated Paducah Tilghman, 45-43, for the title.

EAST PRAIRIE - Three people have been arrested for a Jan. 24 burglary of the East Prairie High School. A Springfield woman along with an individual from Charleston and one from East Prairie were arrested after law enforcement received information about the trio. Some of the items taken have been recovered.
