Promoting the area to day trippers

Sunday, December 24, 2006

The Sikeston and Miner Convention and Visitors Bureau is teaming up again, this time with the Missouri Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau sub team SMCVB (Small Markets Convention and Visitors Bureaus).

The SMCVBs are a team of small towns throughout the state who have banded together to reach more tour groups as a team. This will allow us to advertise and market our cities and towns individually without spending large amounts of money to do so.

Just last Tuesday, 14 SMCVBs hosted an event called "The Hidden Gems of the State" at the Majestic Steakhouse in Branson. We sent out invitations to over 100 receptives from the Branson/Springfield area. (Receptives are individuals who work for companies that market a certain area to Group Leaders).

The evening was filled with great hors d'oeuvres, and each SMCVB brought door prizes and displayed them at their individual booths. During our visit with the receptives, we had the opportunity to inform them as to what we have to offer in our areas.

Our goal was to secure "a stop" on their proposed itineraries for group leaders. During the evening the Sikeston and Miner CVB made valuable contacts with several receptives and informed them of the day trips we have to offer for our area. We also handed out flyers from our new Downtown Merchants Association, The Whistle Stop newsletter, and coupons from the Factory Outlet Stores, Lamberts Café and many other attractions and events.

After we returned from the reception, we have been sending out information to follow up with these receptives. Hopefully we will add an extra day to their itineraries.

If you would like to view our itineraries please go to www.visitsikeston-

miner.com and click on the tab for "Day Trips." We always welcome ideas and comments for marketing the cities of Sikeston and Miner. Just give us a call at 471-6362.
