MATTHEWS - Grady John McMillen, 79, formerlydied at 7:58 p.m. Dec. 27, 2006, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Jan. 29, 1927, at Murray, Ky., to the late Thomas Maxie and Maggie Ann Stagner McMillen, he had lived a number of years in Mississippi County where he was a farm worker and later moved to St. Louis where he was employed as an elevator operator. Until five months ago, he lived in Bonne Terre before moving to Sells Nursing Home in Matthews. He was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include: one sister, Margaret Cates of Fort Leonard Wood; and his sister-in-law and caregiver, Lorene Parker McMillen of Bonne Terre; and a number of nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by: seven brothers, Oscar McMillen, Willie McMillen, J.C. McMillen, Robert McMillen, Jethel McMillen, James McMillen and Tom McMillen; and five sisters, Geneva Vail, Edna Huey, Ruby Finley, Reva Switzer and Dorothy Patrick.

Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Friday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Bill Meeks, pastor of the First General Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
