WAPPAPELLO - Ranzie Gordon Maynard, 86, formerly of Dexter, died Aug. 9, 2006, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 25, 1919, in Guntersville, Ala., to the late John A. and Annie E. Edge Maynard, he had lived in St. Louis, Chicago and Arizona. A retired welder, watchmaker and farmer, he was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II.

On July 2, 1943, in Dexter, he married Alma Hunt, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: five daughters, Donna Short of Festus, Nannie E. Redd of Valley Mines, Peggy Smack of Stacy, Minn., Lois Crowley of Columbia, Joy Zimmer of Roscoe, Ill.; one brother, Johnny Maynard of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmie E. Maynard and Troy Ray Maynard; three brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Bob Taylor of Wappapello will officiate.

Burial with full military rites conducted by the Stoddard County Veteran's Honor Team will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.
