Your view: Optimists say thanks

Thursday, March 13, 2008

The Sikeston Optimist Club would like to thank all those who helped make the Ron Creed Youth in Government Day possible. We are fortunate that we have community leaders, businesses and industries in Sikeston who are committed to the development of Sikeston's future community leaders.

We are indebted to Linda Lowes from the City of Sikeston and Crystie.Ressel, Sikeston High School Counselor. These are the two people that do the heavy lifting for this event. Without their great organizational skills, and attention to detail the Ron Creed Youth in Government Day would not be the success it is. We are fortunate to have these two ladies in positions of leadership within our community.

The Optimist Club could not put on The Ron Creed Youth in Government Day without the financial backing of several sponsors. We would like to thank First State Bank and Trust, Pullen Brothers Trucking, The Standard Democrat, and Cargill Inc. for their financial support of the Ron Creed Youth in Government Day. We would like to thank Bo's Bar B Q for serving the wonderful lunch for us at noon.

We would like to thank each of the City elected officials and employees that took time out of their busy schedules to share with these students just a small portion of what their life is like in leadership positions with in the City of Sikeston.

We would also like to thank the Sikeston School District for their support of this project. And last but not least we would like to thank all the students who took part in the Youth in Government day, for their thoughtfulness in the mock council meeting and for displaying such good manners. Parents you should be proud.

Sincerely,

The Sikeston Optimist Club
