JEFFERSON CITY - Aubrey Michael, Scott County collector, was elected president here today at the annual Collectors and Treasurers convention. He assumed his duties this afternoon at 2 p.m.

SIKESTON - At brief meeting Tuesday, the Sikeston R-6 Board of Education unanimously accepted employment recommendation of four teachers and approved grading and graduation guidelines for handicapped students. In other business, the Teacher Fund Balance Distribution Proposal met with a favorable review.

MINER - The Miner City Council went shopping Tuesday night at its regular meeting. The city's fire and police departments both requested purchase of new equipment, including rewiring for the fire station and a new police car. Fire Chief Jerry Dockins requested about $895 of new equipment for 1986, noting the equipment was sorely needed during last month's tornado. The fire chief also asked the council to review a plan to buy an emergency warning siren.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Swim Team traveled to Pocahontas, Ark., Saturday for the first meet of the season. The Swim Team, with over 40 members from ages 5-18. garnered the most points at the meet.

SIKESTON - In drag strip action Saturday, the Heartland Pro Stock Association was the special feature at the Sikeston Drag Strip. Jeff Isom of West Plains went home first place winner with a reaction time of .506 turning 107.74 mph. Second place was won by Brian Ratliff of Hardy, Ark.
