NEW MADRID -- James "Buck" LaFerney, 74, died June 15, 2006, after a lengthy illness. He died peacefully at his New Madrid Home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 3, 1931, in Conran, to the late Albert LaFerney and Hazel Howard LaFerney Pardon. He was a graduate of Marston High School and served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. After 30 years of service at General Motors he returned to Missouri and the Mississippi River where he enjoyed his love of fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Yvonne Perry LaFerney.

Other survivors include his children, James William LaFerney Jr. of New Madrid, Rick (Rebecca) LaFerney of Poway, Calif., Michael (Mallie) LaFerney of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Cheryl (Harold) Dunigan of Temperance, Mich.; two sisters, Marzel Little and Billie Estes, both of Portageville; and five grandchildren, Ryan Dunigan, Brandy Dunigan, Robin (Kevin) Reedy, Jennifer LaFerney and Erik LaFerney.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Will Pardon; and siblings Alberta Day, Pauline Majers, Vonrey Mattingly, Jean Latimer, Joe Pardon and Bobby Pardon.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Richards Funeral Home with Travis Lambert, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn.
