What's in a name

In the June 12 and 18 SpeakOut column, persons were really concerned about a presidential candidate's name. I didn't know your middle name could define you as un-American, terrorist, un-patriotic or Muslim. To these persons, what does your name say about you?

Not a Gates fan

I don't admire Bill Gates one bit for hiding his millions in a tax-free foundation, while he satisfies his ego dribbling charity acts around the world that basically change nothing.

Go your own way

To the person complaining about the brick roads in downtown, take a different route. It is possible to get to the post office without driving down the brick roads. Or better yet, try slowing down. The streets were not designed for 30 mph traffic. I enjoy driving around downtown and I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming improvements.

Gas money

What does DAEOC do with all the money that is donated to them? I see in the paper where Wal-Mart gave them $1000 and I cannot even get any help with my gas bill. I work a full-time job so don't even tell me to try the unemployment office! Are there any other places around here that help out with utilities? I am trying to move some place all electric but I guess they are all taken.

Roll out the barrels

I travel Salcedo Road twice a day going to work and I am sick and tired of looking at property that has trashy white barrels on it. Now you have trashed up three properties. We've discussed this with several neighbors and they feel the same way. We are going to file a complaint with the county, and don't be surprised if you see it on KFVS as a Heartland Eyesore. If something isn't done, a complaint will go to the attorney general.

Teachers care

Someone said in the paper that the teachers didn't care about the children, they just wanted their money. They don't know what they are talking about. I have worked in school with the teachers for a number of years, and they really do care. You can tell the children whose parents don't help them. It makes it so hard on these kids. If the mothers knew how hard these teachers works with them. They work first with the ones that get their lessons and goes through their classes right. Then they go back and pick up the ones that will not do their work and bring them out of it. I just don't know what to think about mothers that don't care enough about their children to look at their schoolwork when they come in and also to help them. Morehouse has some of the best teachers I have ever seen in my life. I have worked in Sikeston Schools and in Morehouse schools. They really do their job. They don't get much money, they don't get paid enough for what they do. I'm so sorry that there's people that feel that they get too much.

We're all God's creatures

I have a message for the lady on Kingshighway that hates cats. The message is from Saint Francis of Assisi. He taught that all animals are created for mankind and loved by God. And that as stewards of creation, we are to treat them with respect and care. The following is a direct quote of Saint Francis of Assisi, "If you have men or women who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men and women that will deal likewise with their fellow man."
