Where's he from?

Okay, I would like to know what country is Obama from? If his country is not the United States, what country is?

Making people aware

Could someone explain why the Jaycees and the Rodeo are raising money for breast cancer only? There are many other types of cancer. Many people in this area have lung cancer, colon cancer and other cancer. Why are they raising money for only one type of cancer? I don't understand it. Why?

We contacted Marcie Lawson of the American Cancer Society and Jason Pounds of the Jaycees. Tough Enough To Wear Pink is a nation wide campaign of the Jaycees. It was started by the PRCA at the 2005 National Finals Rodeo. The Sikeston Chapter of the Jaycees chose to donate the money they raise, which is used locally, to the American Cancer Society where it is used for wigs, turbans, prosthesis, transportation and Boost for all cancer patients, not just those with breast cancer. The money goes to all cancer patients, but the other important aspect of what they are doing is awareness. We have to keep breast cancer awareness in the forefront or mammograms are going to continue to decline.

Had a Booboo

This is to the person who adopted my daughter's dog form the Sikeston Humane Society. He is a brown short hair Dachshund. His name is Peewee but he also answers to the name Booboo. He has two little girls who love him very much and are extremely upset that he has already been adopted through the Sikeston Humane Society. It is just odd that a person would run an ad in the paper about a dog that they found and then not have the phone on for the number that was given, and not give anytime for someone to respond, or check their messages before taking him to the Humane Society. This little dog has gotten these girls through some tough times in their lives including the recent death of their grandmother. In all due respect, I hope that whoever you are, you sleep well at night knowing that my daughters are short a bed companion. This little dog has been a member of our family for a long time and was a birthday present for my oldest daughter who only wanted a dog and loved him a lot. They are heartbroken by this. If you have our dog or know the person who adopted him please return him to us. My phone number is (573)380-7387.

Talk on travel

This is in reply to the Traveling on letter in SpeakOut on July 11. First of all before you start complaining about the picture at the Complex, did you read it? It is a Sikeston Area Youth Baseball All-Star Team, not a travel team, that represented your league and your city, your state and the Midwest region in four different states in the past three years. The sign was erected in recognition of their achievements. It was put for the younger age players to have goals to shoot for. What they accomplished has never been done in this area over a three year period. So to answer your question, no, it was not paid for by the league. As a matter of fact, a lot of things in our league are paid for out of pocket by our coaches and league officials. Have you ever showed up on a league work night before opening day to see what goes on? Apparently not! We all bring equipment from home and put in a ton of hours of volunteer time and all you can do is complain. All I can say is put your time in or shut up until you know what is really going on.
