Letter to the Editor

Your View: Thank a Jaycee

As a small business owner in Sikeston and the JC Bootheel Rodeo fast approaching, I felt a strong urge to write this letter.

I know the Sikeston JC's have lost several of their family members in the past few months and also a dear friend of mine. With the passing of Tim Jaynes, I have found myself in deep reflection over the past week on what exactly the Sikeston JC Chapter means to me and what I feel it means to this community.

I have had the honor of getting to know several of these young men personally and have been fortunate enough to be able to work side by side with these guys for the last three years at the Rodeo, the PBR events and the Kenny Rogers Center telethon. I can tell you from firsthand experience that this organization puts your town, the city of Sikeston and its residents first and foremost.

From the countless hours of work behind the scenes leading up to the Rodeo, to the volunteering that they do for numerous other events throughout the year, these guy's don't quit. I have seen this group collectively work harder for the Sikeston community family than they do for themselves. And they do it because they love their town and they want to serve this community.

So, as the Rodeo comes to town this week, if you see a Sikeston JC member, tell them you appreciate all they do and all they have done for our community. I know they would appreciate it, and as I have found in the past week, you many not get another chance to tell them.

God bless you, Tim. Thanks for all you did. Rest in peace.
