Gene Ellis
PORTAGEVILLE -- Edward Eugene "Gene" Ellis, 83, died Sept. 15, 2008, at his home.
Born Feb. 21, 1925, at Portageville, to the late Ethel L. and Gertrude Hathorn Ellis, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was the owner/operator of Ellis Builders Supply in Portageville and a member of the St. Eustachius Catholic Church.
On Sept. 5, 1958, in Portageville, he married Betty Sue Tanner.
Survivors include: three daughters, Angela Toton of Portageville, Susan Chambers of Atoka, Tenn., and Jena Woodall of Arlington, Tenn.; one sister, Ruth Sprague of Detroit; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters, Joe Ellis, Adaline Bernath, Raymond Ellis, Aubrey Ellis, Leon Ellis, Carl Ellis, Louis Ellis, George Ellis, Pearl Ellis, Gertrude Ellis and James Ellis.
Visitation is at 5 p.m. Wednesday, with parish prayers at 7 p.m., at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Eustachius Catholic Church with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating.
Burial with full military rites will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Charles Perkins, Paul Perkins, Gary Perkins, Audrey Ellis, Steve Barnett and Ellis Chambers.
