NEW MADRID - Discussion of the necessary steps in making a vocational school a reality occupied the largest portion of the regular session of the New Madrid R-1 (Enlarged) School District Board of Education. Planning and development for such a facility was discussed.

SIKESTON - Approval of a new year-long contract with Missouri Delta Medical Center was the main order of business at Thursday's meeting of the Southern Scott County Ambulance District Board of Directors. The contract extends from Oct. 1, 1998, to Sept. 30, 1989.

SIKESTON - The Scott County Emergency Management Agency recently conducted a raffle for a Winchester Model 94 30-30 24K gold rifle. Joe Burton, director, presented John V. Halter, coordinator of the Chaffee EMA, with the gun for having sold the winning ticket.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston United Way Chairman Judy Beggs presented a plaque of appreciation to Ryan's Family Steak House Thursday. Accepting the plaque was assistant manager Leona Abernathy. The restaurant was honored for donating the foold for the kick-off luncheon of the 1998-99 United Way Campaign in Southeast Missouri.

BENTON -Tonya Green, an employee of Diebold Orchards stocked the shelves of the the store with fresh apples. September marks the peak of Missouri's apple harvest and growers are expected to harvest more than 800.000 bushels from now until the end of November.
