Dexter volleyball beats Charleston; Kelly softball loses

JACKSON -- The Sikeston Bulldog soccer team fell to 2-12 on the season with a 4-0 loss to the Jackson Indians on Tuesday.

A breakdown in the second half was the back-breaker for the Bulldogs in an otherwise tight first half. It was 1-0 Jackson at half time but three goals in a span of five minutes proved to much for the visiting Bulldogs.

"It was back-and-forth for awhile and we held them," Sikeston head coach Derrick Long said. "Then around the 68 minute mark they just overpowered our defense. Overall, I was pleased with the way we played. Jackson is a good team."

Sikeston's next game will be at Marion, Ill. on Thursday.

POPLAR BLUFF -- The Kelly Lady Hawks dropped their second game in a row on Tuesday at Poplar Bluff falling to the Lady Mules 6-3.

"Poplar Bluff played a great game," Kelly head coach Rhonda Ratledge said. "They were making diving catches in the outfield and were stopping everything that was hit to them on defense."

The Lady Mules grabbed the early lead in the first inning with three runs off of Kelly's starting pitcher Heather Beggs. Beggs gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits and had one strikeout. She gave way to Danielle Dock after the first inning and remained in for the rest of the game.

Dock gave up three runs (two earned) of her own on three hits and one walk. She also struck out six.

All of Kelly's runs and four of their five hits came in the fourth inning. Katee Moore had the only extra-base hit for the Lady Hawks with a triple and an RBI. Haley Glastetter and Brittany Brantley each had one hit and an RBI as well.
