Oct. 21, 1948

SIKESTON - The first steps toward bringing top flight musical talent to Sikeston were taken when a Community Concert Association was organized at a meeting at the high school music and agriculture building Tuesday night. George Kirk was elected president of the group and Keith Collins was elected as vice president.

SIKESTON - Construction on an eight-room addition to the west wing of the Homestead Hotel was started Tuesday, according to J.F. Cox Sr., owner of the hotel.

Oct. 21, 1968

SIKESTON - A name-brand merchandise Britt Department Store will be included in the Kingsway Plaza Mall Shopping Center when it opens Nov. 1, 1969, according to President George Staples Jr. of Charleston.

Oct. 21, 1988

SIKESTON - Sikeston's Grove Manufacturing Co., a women's clothing marker, apparently closed last week. Attempts to contact company officials, either in Sikeston or at the parent company in St. Louis, were denied. The Sikeston Development Council's Economic Development Specialist Mary Doggett also declined comment. A receptionist answered the Grove Company's telephone this morning, saying that nobody was at the plant but herself. The company employed about 100 workers.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Public Schools Parents As Teachers Program and the Early Childhood Center are sponsoring a program on self-esteem in preschool children.

SIKESTON - New officers were recently elected to serve the coming year for the Sikeston-Missouri ARTS Inc. They are: Jean Chinn, secretary; Larry Bohannon, president; Julie Killion, vice president; and Kaye Dement, treasurer. New members welcomed were: Kathy Boldrey, Anne Schuchart, Rise' Howard, Amy Blanton and Duane Highley. Certificates were presented to Susan James, Ed Cowan and Terri Leible for their years of service.
