Sikeston man charged with two similar crime attempts

BENTON -- A Sikeston man is back in jail after he was arrested on a second charge of attempted burglary.

According to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff's Department, Jason Roach, 35, allegedly approached a residence on County Highway 538 near Miner on Tuesday. He rang the doorbell and then began to knock while turning the doorknob. The homeowner was inside the residence at the time and said if it weren't for a safety latch on the door, Roach would have gained entry.

Roach then allegedly walked around the home, entering a rear garage door where he was confronted by the homeowner who was armed with a handgun. Roach proceeded to say he was lost and asked for directions before driving away in a dark-colored vehicle.

Walter said deputies were aware that Roach was out on bond after he was arrested for a similar crime on Oct. 14. They constructed a photo lineup where Roach was positively identified as the suspect and arrested Tuesday.

He remains in the Scott County Jail, with bond set at $5,000, cash only.
