COLUMBIA - Katie Blanton is one of 38 students from the University of Missouri elected to Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges. Miss Blanton, daughter of David Blanton, is a senior majoring in history and art history.

SIKESTON - The Cystic Fibrosis Bike-a-thon held Oct. 8 raised a total of $1,020, according to Shirley Rudd, Sikeston Public Works administrative assistant.

SIKESTON - The Bank of Sikeston Saturday honored employees at its annual employee appreciation dinner. Those honored for years of service were Shirley Littleton, 10 years; Suzanne Rennier, 20 years; Jean Wade, five years; Eleanor Hahn, 45 years; Sharon Savage, 15 years; and Melany Massey, five years. Rick Adams is president of the bank.

POTOSI - The Sikeston Bulldogs ended their season on a good note Thursday night at Potosi as they trounced the Trojans 45-22 to finish 7-3. It's the best record Sikeston's Bulldogs had since going 9-2 in 1995.

SIKESTON - All of the students at Matthews Elementary School are carrying a book with them everywhere they go. Throughout the day an announcement is played over the intercom to Stop, Drop and Read, and all students read for 10 minutes. The project is part of National Literacy Week.

SIKESTON - The Environmental Protection Agency has directed 22 states, including Missouri, to cut smog causing chemicals from power plants. The tougher pollution controls will have an impact on the Sikeston Power Station, although how much of one is still uncertain.
