Caruthersville woman is stabbed

CARUTHERSVILLE - A man is in custody after stabbing a Caruthersville woman in the neck.

At 12:47 a.m. today, Caruthersville Police responded to a residence in the 900 block of Adams Street following the report of a stabbing. Officers located a 30-year-old woman in front of the residence and provided first aid to the victim until the arrival of the ambulance.

The woman was taken by helicopter to The Med in Memphis where she is listed in critical condition, according to a news release from Caruthersville City Marshal Chris Riggs.

A 56-year-old man was taken into custody and is being held in the Pemiscot County Jail on charges of first degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. His name is not being released pending the filing of formal charges.

Assisting Caruthersville Police in the investigation were the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office and the Caruthersville Fire Department.
