Former Blodgett mayor Ben F. Marshall dies

BLODGETT -- Ben F. "Benny" Marshall III, 81, died Dec. 1, 2008, at his home.

Born Oct. 14, 1927, in St. Louis, to the late Ben F. and Catherine Mooney Marshall Jr., he served in the U.S. Army and was a retired farmer. He was the chairman of the Scott County Democratic Committee for 40 years.

He was the former mayor of Blodgett, past board member of St. Francis Medical Center Foundation and served as a Missouri Colonel during Warren E. Hearnes' Administration. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, and a charter member of the Sikeston Elks Lodge 2319.

On Feb. 23, 1952, in Sikeston, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Anderson, and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Missy Marshall of Sikeston; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Beth and Ron Beitel of Encampment, Wyo., Sally and Kerry Hoggard of Jackson and Ellen and Dan Swanson of Janesville, Wis.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Judy Marshall of Sikeston and Jack and Barbara Marshall of Cape Girardeau; and nine grandchildren.

Parish prayers will be recited at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with visitation to follow until 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Scott Sunnenberg, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Sikeston City Cemetery.
