Council seeks more citizen input on quieting train whistles through town

Brian Dial, street department supervisor with the city of Sikeston, paints white lines 100 feet from the center of railroad tracks on Malone Avenue to show how far the barriers will extend if a quiet zone is created in the city. Dial worked Monday to mark all crossings, so people can get an idea of any effects and give their feedback to the city.

SIKESTON -- The city will move closer toward the creation of a railroad quiet zone.
City Council members discussed the possible zone during a Monday morning meeting. The issue of establishing quiet zones was originally discussed by the council last fall.
