Hands off healthcare

Former State Rep. Peter Myers of Sikeston speaks to a crowd of about 30 during the Patients First Bus Tour stop Thursday in Sikeston. Other speakers included Carl Bearden, Missouri state director of Americans for Prosperity; and John McMillen of Sikeston. Sikeston was the first stop on the tour, which had 10 scheduled stops Thursday and today. Speakers urged those in attendance to get their legislators to listen to them about not raising taxes and interfering in healthcare -- while they agreed a reform is needed, they said socialization is not the answer. "We're heading down a slippery slope, and one that will cost us a lot of money," said Bearden. Also during the stop, attendees were given phone numbers for their representatives and urged to call and show their protest to the proposed health reform.
