DPS offers tips to deal with robbery

SIKESTON -- When you are the victim in an armed robbery -- such as the one that occurred at Applebee's early Monday morning -- what should you do?

"It sounds like a simple question but can lead to a lot of debate," said Sgt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. "I think every situation is different."

Mentally preparing in advance for the possibility of being the victim of this type of crime can be helpful, McMillen advised.

"If you prepare, are aware of your surroundings, in the event that a robbery does happen at least you have a game plan and won't lock up and get tunnel vision," he said.
