Bass tourneys over, crappie set to begin

With last week's Superbass tournament on Lake Wappapello, the bass tourney season came to an end (unless there is one not on my schedule from the Corps of Engineers) for 2009.

Now the crappie tournament season will start.

CURRENT RIVER TOURNEY

The Current River Smallmouth Association will have their final circuit event Oct. 17, fishing from Van Buren.

SAFETY FIRST

Safety first should always be the motto for anyone who is enjoying outdoor activities. Bowhunters should always check their treestand to make sure it is sturdy before putting it up.

BYE-BYE BIRDIES

Last weekend we had three hummingbirds using our feeders. The next two days I didn't see one, so I thought they had all left.

GOOD FISHING, BIG SPILL

On my latest fishing trip to Mingo, Ron and I caught a couple of messes of fish. We finished the day with nine crappie, two bluegills and three pickerels in the icebox.

UKC COON HUNTS

There are three UKC coon hunting events in the area this weekend.

WATERFOWL BANQUET

Waterfowlers may be interested in attending a banquet for a new chapter of Delta Waterfowl in the area.
