Charleston man jailed for domestic assault

CHARLESTON -- A Charleston man is in jail on domestic assault charges.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, an James Edwards Adams, 23, is charged with first degree domestic assault and first degree property damage.

Adams was arrested following an investigation by Deputy Janice McCameron of the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

According to reports, Adams was involved in a physical altercation which occurred in Wyatt, where Adams was residing at the time. Adams struck the victim numerous times, and the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

"Domestic violence is a very serious issue," Moore said. "It is a crime that's not taken lightly."

Domestic violence is an emotional issue as well as a physical issue, the sheriff said.

"It affects members of both sexes and all walks of live," Moore said. "No one is exempt."

Adams is currently incarcerated in the Mississippi County Detention Center with a bond of $100,000 cash or surety.
