Miner OKs truck for public works

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

MINER -- The Miner Board of Alderman approved the purchase of a three-quarter ton four-wheel drive pickup truck for the city's public works department from Autry Morlan Chevrolet in Sikeston during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday.

Autry Morlan's price of $25,034 was the higher of the two bids. Also bidding was Putnam Chevrolet of California, Mo., with an offer of a vehicle at $21,200 which appeared to meet the requested specifications.

Putnam's offer is a statewide bid through the Missouri Department of Transportation. The bid advises the vehicle would be available in 45-60 days. The pickup offered by Morlan is on the lot.

"We can wait on delivery for that much difference," said Alderman Charles McLemore. "It's worth 45-60 days to save $4,000.

If, that is, it is an "apples to apples" comparison, City Attorney Joe Fuchs cautioned.

Fuchs noted the sticker price on the Morlan vehicle was about $35,000 before discounts and rebates.
