CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Red Devils scored seven runs in their final two at-bats and defeated Cape Central for the first time since 2001 on Wednesday.

Chaffee trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth and scored two to tie the game and then added five in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 7-2 win.

"It was a close game throughout and then we tied it in the fifth and in the sixth inning we really swung the bats well," said Chaffee coach Brian Horrell. "It was a really nice win for us over a really good program."

The seven runs were more than enough for Chaffee pitcher Cody Payne who tossed seven innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits with one walk and seven strike outs. Payne also had three hits while Alex Crowe and Trevor Cannon added two.

Chaffee (2-0) will host Kelly on Monday at 4 p.m.

RISCO -- Banging out 10 hits on Wednesday, the Risco Tigers took care of North Pemiscot 9-4.

Chris Pavy went 4 for 4 with four singles, two RBI and three runs scored while Jordon Pavy and Brandon Bixler added two hits apiece.

Bixler, who ended up with three RBI, hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to get the Tigers rolling.

Continuing a 4-run inning, Matt Cumins connected for another 2-run bomb in the third giving Risco (3-0) a commanding 6-0 lead.

"We got timely hits," Risco head coach Brandon Blankenship said. "It was good to see different guys throughout our lineup step up."

Although they held a lead of a half dozen, North Pemiscot roared back with one run in the fourth and three more in the fifth to close within two.

Chris Pavy, however, gave the Tigers more breathing room in the sixth with a 2-run single.

Bixler picked up the win for the Tigers in 3 1/3 innings of work. The Tigers used five different pitchers in the contest.

"We didn't want to stretch anyone out just yet," Blankenship said about using five hurlers. "We gave them each a short time on the mound since it's so early in the season."
