CANALOU -- Shirley Russell, 66, died March 24, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born Jan. 13, 1946, in Jonesboro, Ark., to the late Robert and Nannie Lou Williams, she was a member of the Canalou Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, having served as 50th district deputy grand matron in 2005, past worthy matron of the Morley Order of Eastern Star and was currently serving as worthy matron of Coronation 141 in Bernie. She had been employed as a certified nursing assistant at Missouri Delta Medical Center for over 30 years.

She is survived by: one son David Russell of Canalou; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Matt Strebler of Canalou; and two grandchildren, Caleb Russell and Hunter Strebler of Canalou.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by one half brother.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m., with Eastern Star rites at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Ponder Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. DeWayne Coleman, pastor of Canalou Baptist Church, and Fred Ritter and the Rev. Don Slatton, retired ministers, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Tom Hafford, Danny Vernon, Jody Chaney, T.J. Slanoers, Williard Robinson II and Danny Robinson.
