CAPE GIRARDEAU - Two area men will serve time in federal prison on felony gun charges.

Danny Lee Byrd, 25, of Charleston was sentenced to 180 months on one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

At approximately 3 a.m. Jan. 20, 2011, a truck was reported stolen from the parking lot at the Pilot Travel Center in Charleston. Officers later discovered the truck was returned to the same parking lot and was occupied by Byrd, who appeared to be sleeping. Officers observed that the truck was damaged, and there were six firearms located in the cab of the vehicle, which did not belong to the truck's owner.

In addition, officers found in the bed of the truck numerous items of mail addressed to an area homeowner. Subsequent investigation revealed the residence had been burglarized that evening and the firearms taken from the home.
