Sylvester Sims

NEW MADRID -- Sylvester "Fat" Sims, 57, died June 9, 2012, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Oct. 5, 1954, in New Madrid, to the late George Bob and Genevieve Miller Sims, he attended New Madrid County Schools where he was a member of the 1972 graduating class and a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in New Madrid. He was employed by Riceland Foods Inc. in Marston and a member of United Steel Union Local 7686.

Survivors include: two sons, Sevell L. Robinson of St. Louis and Desmond Sims of Columbia; two brothers, Williams Sims and Robert Sims of Wichita, Kan.; four sisters, Lynda Sims and Barbara Sims of Wichita, Jennie Miller of Chicago and Doris Sims of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in New Madrid where services will begin at noon Saturday. Carl Nichols, pastor, and the Rev. Leotis Aikens will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery in New Madrid.

Williams Funeral Home of Howardville is in charge of arrangements.
