Sikeston will continue to solicit and service tourism for county

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

BENTON -- The city of Sikeston will continue to be Scott County's official destination marketing organization for another three years.

The Scott County Commission approved during their regular meeting Tuesday a resolution designating the Sikeston Convention and Visitors Bureau as the single representative organization to solicit and service tourism in the county.

The resolution is required for the county to be a qualified participant in the Cooperative Marketing Program administered by the Missouri Division of Tourism.

The county must adopt a resolution approving the agreement every three years, according to Linda Lowes, director of governmental services for the city of Sikeston.

"We have been their designated marketing organization for more than 10 years," Lowes said.

Jamie Burger, presiding county commissioner, said the county needs the county to be represented and the city has the staff on hand to do so for the county.
