Sheriff presents ICE figures to commissioners

CHARLESTON -- ICE business for Mississippi County has cooled recently but is still bringing in some cold cash.

Sheriff Keith Moore presented figures during the regular County Commission meeting Thursday which show holding federal detainees for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement remains profitable.

In September, ICE revenue was $35,293 with costs associated with housing those prisoners figured at $21,986 for a a profit of $13,307.

And, Presiding Commissioner Carlin Bennett noted, "this is as bad as it's ever been."
