SIKESTON -- A dog which attacked three people in the past two weeks was killed Sunday by a Sikeston Department of Public Safety officer.

On June 13, a White Japanese Akita was seized after biting two people.

According to Capt. Jim McMillen, Sikeston DPS public information officer, the dog's owner and a friend were trying to play with the dog when it attacked the friend. The owner tried to get the dog off of his friend but was initially unsuccessful, however on a second attempt, the dog's owner was able to stop the attack.

The owner's "left hand was bitten by the animal, biting off the tip of the owner's index finger. The friend received bites to his upper right arm/shoulder area," McMillen noted in a news release.
